Gale Breed and Linda Bullock
“Celebrities aren’t the only people who use personal chef services,” says Gale Breed, one of the owners of Kreative Kitchen, LLC Personal Chef Services. One client, for instance, lives in California, but engages Kreative Kitchen to shop two or three times a week and prepare meals for her 82-year-old mother in her home in Indianapolis.
Breed and business partner Linda Bullock share all of the responsibilities for their new business 100 percent. “We both need to know how to do everything, because we want to be able to fill in for each other when needed,” says Bullock. The business currently serves approximately 25 regular clients, and more for occasions like Mother’s Day and birthday and anniversary celebrations.
Prior to starting their business in October 2005, the partners had been cooking for people, on request and on special occasions. Completing the Business Ownership Initiative of Indiana’s Business Beginnings course helped them to think through their ideas and take themselves seriously. Course classmates continue to meet regularly, providing ongoing support for each other in their business endeavors.
Breed and Bullock have since taken workshops in BOI’s High-Impact Marketing series, which helped them develop their flyers and brochure. Just recently, they sent out a new CD describing their services to potential clients. “It mimics our Web site and it’s interactive,” says Bullock. In 2007, the team plans to expand their customer base by providing services for corporate meetings and events. If and when more help is needed for larger groups, Breed says, they’ll hire college students part-time, as they have done in the past.
In addition to providing personal chef services for their regular clients, Kreative Kitchen presents cooking demonstrations and classes to interested groups and home parties. They will create special meals for holidays and other special occasions. On Valentine’s Day this year, for example, they offered a romantic dinner for two — steak, baked potatoes and salad, prepared to order, with cheesecake or Breed’s signature pound cake for dessert — including a choice of flowers or chocolates. Breed and Bullock have made it their business with Kreative Kitchen Personal Chef Services to make even regular folks feel like celebrities every day.
